Researchers at Duke University are working on an
autonomous surgical robot. So far the robot can take tissue samples and currently has a
93-percent accuracy rate, although the researchers believe that can be improved. This technology
could save money in the long run as robots are getting more advanced every day.
But where are the robots popularized by science fiction?
Technology has been used for decades for learning and information transfer. However,
a new trend is appearing in the use of technology in schools: using tech to go green. Schools across the globe are
using the latest in modern appliances to save the earth, such as using e-mail and servers to send assignments and grades
and using tools such as GPS to virtually travel the planet.
George Mason University recently launched a new program that offers a
bachelor's degree in video game programming. Student interest has been much higher
than anticipated, encouraging video game industry experts. Love video games?
A growing number of Twitter users are enforcing so-called "Twetiquette."
These users criticize other Tweeters' improper spelling, grammar and capitalization. Some claim

Giving back to the community is high on our agenda. We supported the WVIZ/PBS auction by donating gift certificates for our Shaker Hts. and Fairlawn camps. The students at Marcus Garvey Academy, a charter school in East Cleveland, were delighted when we volunteered to teach a class on computer game programming. Ross Cockfield, M.G.A. Director said “This technology is the wave of the future and the exposure to this information kept the kids buzzing for weeks. The kids were happy to receive a copy of the game they created to play with their friends.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 854,000 professional IT jobs will be added between 2006 and 2016, an increase of about 24%. When replacement jobs are added in, total IT job openings in the 10-year period is estimated at 1.6 million.
Ted Jordan, founder of Funutation Tech Camps, says the parents who bring their kids to his camps and after-school programs “see the big picture. A lot of parents look at this as an investment in preparing their kids for college.” These parents may not be techies themselves, but “it’s more so parents who understand the value of education. Many of them are teachers or have advanced degrees,” says Jordan. He said demand for technology education for kids still far exceeds the supply here in Cleveland.
