Funutation is firm in our commitment to providing your child the finest experience in the technology skills education arena. As a result, computer programming, reading skills, and teamwork are integral parts of the Funutation curriculum. In our ever changing and fast-paced world, these skill sets will not only make your child a better student but also give them the building blocks to develop themselves into sought-after employees. All of our classes are designed for kids ages 8-14.

All classes run once a week for six consecutive weeks. All classes are 2 hours per session, with the exception of North Olmsted, which is 1.5 hours per session.

2D Video Game Design
Design a basic video game on the computer with no prior experience required. Learn computer graphics techniques and animation fundamentals. Create an exciting landscape for your game. Next, add realism to your game with collision detection and sound.

Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a disc of his or her game. The software is not included with the class disc but it is available for purchase at http://stagecast.com/index.asp. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

3D Video Game Design (prerequisite 2D Game Video Game Design or programming knowledge)
Take your child's skills to the next level with our 3D game programming course. Add light and textures to create a realistic environment. Place characters in a 3D environment and make them come to life with movement and sound.

Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a disc of his or her game. The programming software is not included with the disc but it is available for purchase at http://www.blitzbasic.com. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

Advanced Computer Game Programming (prerequisites: 2D and 3D Video Game Design)
Students can take what they learned in our 2D and 3D Video Game Design courses to create games with multiplayer capability. Core concepts used in this class are applicable to the design and construction of massively multiplayer games such as World of Warcraft and Everquest.

Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a disc of his or her game. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

Digital 3D Modeling
Students can take what they learned in our 2D and 3D Video Game Design courses to create games with their own 3D Models created with Blender3D. Students will first create simple 3D shapes like cones, rods, and toruses. Next, they'll create more complex shapes like faces and bodies. Finally, their objects can be added to computer games that they make!

Digital Art & Animation
Our class teaches the fundamental principles of object oriented programming through animation. Students can create their own animation which can be a story, interactive game or simply a dance. While making their animation, students will learn the basic structure of programming without using any technical programming language.
These concepts will be used to populate a virtual world and then animated. Objects within that world can be people, animals, and vehicles. While making games and animations students are learning the principles behind Java, C++, and C#.

Digital Audio Production
In Digital Audio Production, your child will learn how to make digital music on a computer. Your child will explore how to create sounds from digital instruments, mix, loop, and sample pieces of audio. Students will make a radio commercial, podcast, and other digital audio productions.


Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student gets to take home a CD of the audio they created. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

Digital Darkroom
Digital Darkroom will introduce students to the world of photography and learn what makes a good picture. Students will learn basic digital photo editing skills and explore the tools found in Paint.NET. Basic techniques such as cropping, rotating, removing red eye, and cloning are all important fundamentals covered in our course. Kids will learn digital photo organization techniques as well as important concepts as blur, sharpen, and saturation.

Digital Photography

Explore your digital camera and learn the fundamental skills behind taking great photos. Our course is designed to introduce beginning photographers to the basic techniques of digital photography. We'll clearly explain everything you need to know about using your camera's controls to capture great photos.Topics range from basic camera tips like how to hold your camera to more advanced techniques like night photography and firework photos, independent of any specific digital camera or lens.

Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a disc of his or her photos. A $50 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

Digital Video Production (four student minimum)
Learn the basics of manual camera operation using advanced digital cameras. This course will cover shot composition, manual focus, and techniques for producing quality video while shooting in the field. Students will also use professional editing software to add effects, audio, and graphics to their projects. During this class, students learn to shoot short documentaries, ads, and comedy sketch videos.

Students work in teams of four to six. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a DVD of his or her videos. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

After taking this course, students in grades 6-8 and 9-12 should consider entering the Student Video Contest sponsored by eTech Ohio, the Ohio Public Television Stations, and The Ohio Department of Education.


Flying Fingers (Grades 6 to 8)
Tux the penguin needs your help. You can play "Space Cadet”, “Ace”, or “Comet Zap”. Using 10 soldiers and the keyboard you can save Tux. Carefully but quickly type the right letters on the keyboard to win! Remember, "hunt and peck" is the enemy. There will be short practice sessions to prepare you for battle. This video game style interface helps students become more effective typists. When taking our class, your child will go from home row to hero.

Funutation's Fundamentals (Grades 3 to 5)
Our computer camps stress teamwork and sharing. Kids will get an introduction to computer terms and concepts. Our course covers keyboarding the alphabet (upper and lower case letters), time, math, shapes, and science. Help Tux the Penguin eat his dinner before the fish pass him by, or save your city. Carefully but quickly type the right letters on the keyboard to win! There will be short a practice sessions to prepare you for battle. This is important! You won't have time to peek at the keyboard for the right letter!

Robotronix (Grades 4 to 7)
Build and program a (SumoBot®) robot to detect opponents and avoid obstacles. Learn the PBASIC programming language to tell the robot what to do, where to go, and how fast it should be going. Focal areas of the class are computer programming and basic electronics. In the final class session, students and their robots will battle for supremacy, Sumo-style!

Students work in teams of four to six. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with miniature robot her or she can put together individually. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.

 

Web Design with Animation
rCreate a Web site that highlights your creativity! Students will learn the basics of HTML programming, site organization, and animation. In addition to placing text and images on their sites, students will learn about Cascading Style Sheets and the use of tables in site layout.

Students work in teams of two per computer. Parents are invited on the last half hour of the last day for a demonstration. Each student will go home with a disc of his or her Web site. A $30 lab fee is due to Funutation on the first day of class.
